How to Change Your Name on Facebook

Update the name on your Facebook profile through Accounts Center, and know the 60-day lock before you save.

1. Open Settings, then tap Accounts Center

   In the Facebook app, tap your profile picture or the menu icon, then tap Settings & privacy, then Settings. Accounts Center sits at the top; on the web, click your profile photo, then Settings & privacy, then Settings to find it.

2. Go to Personal details

   Inside Accounts Center, tap Personal details, then Name. If you manage both Facebook and Instagram in one Accounts Center, pick the Facebook profile.

3. Enter your new name

   Type the first, middle (optional), and last name you want. Facebook requires the name you go by in everyday life and rejects symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, and titles.

4. Review and save

   Tap Review change, check how the name will appear, enter your password if prompted, and tap Save changes. The update usually applies right away but can take a short review.

5. Remember the 60-day lock

   Once you change your name, Facebook will not let you change it again for 60 days. Double-check spelling before saving so you are not stuck with a typo.
