How to Descale a Keurig

Clear mineral buildup from your Keurig with vinegar so it brews hot, fast, and full cups again.

  1. Empty and prep the machine

Turn the machine on, remove and empty the water reservoir, and take out any K-cup. If your model has a charcoal water filter, remove it before descaling.

  2. Fill with vinegar solution

Pour equal parts white vinegar and water into the reservoir (or use Keurig descaling solution per its label). A full reservoir of roughly half vinegar, half water works well.

  3. Run brew cycles without a pod

Place a large mug on the drip tray and run the largest brew size with no K-cup inserted. Pour each brewed mug into the sink and repeat until the reservoir is empty.

  4. Let it sit, then rinse thoroughly

Let the machine stand 30 minutes to dissolve scale, then refill the reservoir with fresh water and run cycles until it is empty — usually 3-4 full reservoirs — to flush all vinegar taste before brewing coffee.
