How to Descale a Nespresso

Run the descaling cycle on an OriginalLine Nespresso machine to clear scale and protect the pump.

1. Prep and fill the tank

   Remove any used capsule, empty the drip tray and capsule container, and pour one packet of Nespresso descaling solution into the water tank, then fill to the max line with fresh water (about 0.5 L).

2. Enter descaling mode

   On most OriginalLine machines, turn the machine on, then hold both the espresso and lungo buttons together for about 3 seconds. The buttons blink to confirm descaling mode is active.

3. Run the solution through

   Place a container at least 1 liter under the spout and press a button to start. The machine pumps the solution through; pour the contents of the container back into the tank and run the cycle a second time.

4. Rinse with clean water

   Empty and rinse the tank, refill with fresh water to the max line, and run the rinse cycle to flush out all descaling solution. Exit descaling mode by holding both buttons for 3 seconds again.
