How to Fix Candle Tunneling

Fix a candle that burns down the center by resetting the wax pool so it melts evenly.

  1. Wrap aluminum foil around the top of the candle, leaving a small opening in the center

Fold the foil loosely over the edges so it creates a dome — this traps heat and forces the outer wax to melt.

  2. Light the candle and let it burn for 1-2 hours until the entire top surface is an even pool of liquid wax

Check it periodically. Once the melt pool reaches the edges, the tunnel is reset.

  3. Remove the foil and let the candle cool completely before relighting

Going forward, always burn the candle long enough for the wax to pool edge-to-edge on the first use — typically 1 hour per inch of diameter.
