Safely lift a car using the parking brake, wheel chocks, the correct jack points, and jack stands.
Stop on level pavement, shift to Park (or first gear for a manual), turn off the engine, and set the parking brake firmly. Never jack a car on a slope or soft ground.
Place wheel chocks (or bricks) in front of and behind the tires at the opposite end of the car from where you're lifting. This prevents the car from rolling.
Check the owner's manual for the reinforced lift points — usually a metal pinch weld or notch just behind the front wheels or ahead of the rear wheels. Never lift on the floor pan, oil pan, or plastic.
Position the jack squarely under the lift point and pump or crank smoothly until the tire just clears the ground. Stop and re-seat the jack if it shifts or leans.
Place rated jack stands under the frame or pinch weld next to the jack, lower the car onto them, and give the car a firm shake to confirm it's stable. Never put any part of your body under a car held up by the jack alone.
