How to Open an Incognito Window

Start a private browsing session that doesn't save your history, cookies, or form entries.

  1. Use the keyboard shortcut (fastest)

In Chrome or Edge press Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on Mac). In Firefox or Safari it's Ctrl+Shift+P (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac). A new dark-themed window opens instantly.

  2. Or open it from the menu

Click the three-dot (Chrome/Edge) or three-line (Firefox) menu in the top-right and choose "New Incognito window" / "New private window." In Safari it's File > New Private Window.

  3. On a phone, use the tab switcher

In mobile Chrome, tap the tabs icon, then the masked/incognito icon, then "+". In Safari on iPhone, tap the tabs icon and switch to the "Private" tab group.

  4. Know what it does and doesn't hide

Incognito stops your device from saving history, cookies, and what you type in forms. It does NOT hide your activity from your employer, school, internet provider, or the websites you visit. Close the window to end the session.
