How to Remove an Apple Watch Band

Release the band from an Apple Watch using the hidden buttons on the back, without scratching the case.

  1. Take the watch off and lay it face down

Place the watch screen-down on a soft, flat surface like a folded towel or microfiber cloth so the display can't get scratched while you work.

  2. Find the band release buttons

Look at the back of the watch: there's a small oval button flush with the case next to each band slot. They sit close to the band itself and are easy to miss.

  3. Hold the button and slide the band sideways

Press and hold the release button, then slide that half of the band horizontally out of its groove — left or right, never pull it up or away from the case. Repeat for the other half.

  4. If it sticks, keep pressing and re-align

A band that won't budge usually isn't seated straight. Keep the button fully pressed, nudge the band level in its channel, and slide again with steady pressure — no tools needed.

  5. Slide the new band in until it clicks

Insert each half of the replacement band into the groove, text side facing you, and slide until you feel and hear a click. Tug both halves gently to confirm they're locked before wearing the watch.
