How to Remove Permanent Marker

Get permanent marker off hard surfaces in under a minute using rubbing alcohol.

  1. Apply rubbing alcohol to the stain

Soak a cotton ball or cloth with isopropyl rubbing alcohol (70% or higher). Place it directly on the marker stain and let it sit for 15-30 seconds.

  2. Wipe firmly in one direction

Use the soaked cloth to wipe the stain away, working from the outside in to avoid spreading. Re-apply alcohol and repeat if needed.

  3. Clean the surface with soap and water

Wipe down the area with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove any remaining alcohol residue, then dry with a clean towel.
