How to Restart an iPhone

Do a normal restart of your iPhone to clear up glitches — the gentle version of a reset.

  1. Hold the right buttons to bring up the power slider

On Face ID iPhones, press and hold the Side button and either Volume button together. On older iPhones with a Home button, hold just the Side (or top) button.

  2. Drag "slide to power off"

When the slider appears at the top, drag it to the right. Give it about 30 seconds to fully shut down.

  3. Turn it back on

Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then let go. This is different from a hard reset — it's a clean, normal restart that closes everything safely.

  4. No buttons? Restart from Settings

Go to Settings > General > Shut Down, drag the slider, then press the Side button to power back on.
