How to Set Up Out of Office in Teams

Schedule an automatic out-of-office reply in Microsoft Teams so people know you are away.

  1. Open your status menu

Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of Teams. In the menu, click "Set status message," or click your current status (like Available) to find more options.

  2. Choose Out of Office

Select "Schedule out of office" at the bottom of the status message panel. This opens the out-of-office settings.

  3. Turn on auto-replies

Toggle "Turn on automatic replies" and type your message, for example "I am out until Monday and will respond when I return." You can write a different reply for people outside your organization.

  4. Set the dates

Check "Send replies only during a time period," then pick your start and end date and time. This auto-clears the status when you return.

  5. Save

Click "Save." Because Teams and Outlook share the same setting, this also enables your Outlook email auto-reply for the same period.
